Reiki is an ancient form of healing. The word is derived from:
Rei meaning Universal, Holy, Mystery, Spirit
Ki is the word for Chi meaning Life Force, Vital Energy.
Reiki can then be translated as Holy or Healing Light/ Energy
Reiki is metaphysical healing; healing in the aura or energy field of another person or animal. Healing light/energy passes from the practitioner to the client through touch or placing the hands lightly above the body, over specific points. The purpose is to restore and balance the natural energy flows of the patient.
Reiki was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui in the mid 1800’s. He was the principal of a Christian seminary who devoted his life to searching for answers about the healing work of Jesus. Unable to find answers in Christian writings, he traveled to the East. While at a Buddhist monastery in Japan, he embarked on a 21 day fast where he received the vision for healing that became known as Reiki. He spent the rest of his life traveling and teaching.
Reiki training is done in 4 stages or degrees; Reiki 1, Reiki 2, Reiki 3 and Reiki Master.
