SUMMARY:Body Identical Hormone Replacement
DESCRIPTION:by Dr. Simone Silver \n \n\nA basic overview of the peri/menopause transition and how to do blood tests correctly\nWhere we are with MHT and body identical hormone therapies\nCompounded vs. pharmaceutical hormones – how to deal with conflicts\nThe dos and don’ts of prescribing MHT\nCombining hormone therapies with nutraceuticals\nInvitation to join WhatsApp and monthly teaching group\n\nDr Simone Silver graduated from the University of Witwatersrand in 2007. \nEven as a medical student\, she was intrigued by the concept that not only are all the body systems connected in an intricate manner\, but that a network of environmental\, psychological\, hormonal\, genetic and dietary factors all influence physical and emotional well-being and propensity for disease. \nOver the years\, her studying branched into the fields of functional and personalised medicine as well as peri/menopausal care. Her interest in individualised healthcare has since become an inexhaustible passion. \nAfter completing her public health years between Chris Hani Baragwaneth and Johannesburg General Hospital\, she first practiced briefly as a GP in a busy private practice before joining the Integrative Medical Centre in Bryanston\, where her real journey into Functional/ Integrative medicine was born. Here she was mentored by an expert specialist physician and furthered her functional medicine training through various local and overseas courses. In 2014 she moved to Cape Town and opened her own practice in Gardens – The Hormonal Health & Wellness Centre. \nShe is currently completing her Fellowship in Anti-aging\, Metabolic and Functional medicine through the American Academy of Anti-aging medicine (A4M) and lectures frequently both locally and overseas. She is passionate about empowering people to craft their own health story be it in the consultation room or to a wider audience and is simultaneously involved in health care practitioner education and healthcare delivery evolution with her colleagues.\nShe values the approach of combing the science of medicine with the ‘soul’ of the patient\, individualising and tailoring her care to each unique patient. \nShe values self-growth and awareness and is excited by life’s daily opportunities for continued development and possibility. \nFee: R200 (or pay for the rest of the year in advance @ 10% discount so R2520) \nBooking: deposit fee and send POP to elma@integrativemedicine.co.za \nContributions to SASIM Account number: 1357 003986 Nedbank Stellenbosch. SUMMARY:Rethinking Autism
DESCRIPTION:by Dr. David Nossel \n \nAutism is baffling. So many perplexing questions: How is it diagnosed? What causes it? Why is it on the increase? Is it amenable to treatment? How is it treated? \nIn this presentation Dr David Nossel will (briefly) take you through the more standard approaches to Autism and then (in detail) share with you the more breakthrough perspectives. Typically thought of as a Neurodevelopmental condition\, Autism can be understood differently\, expensively\, betterly as a Cellular Metabolic condition. With this broader approach the causes\, manifestations\, therapies and treatments become far more deductive\, attainable\, and most importantly of all\, effective. \n*Dr David Nossel graduated from Wits Medical School with a MB.BCh degree (as well as a B.Sc in Laboratory Medicine\, which he picked up on the way). After his internship he took a bit of a tangent and went to Jerusalem to study religion (for 20 years). He returned to SA in 2009 and worked as a Rabbi until 2018 when he returned to Clinical Medicine. \nAs a young doctor (in a not so young body) he was invited by one of his former congregants to look into Autism and its various treatment approaches. He was introduced to a Biomedical doctor who opened up his mind and his passion (and clinical practice) to help children and adults with Autism began. \nFee: R200 (or pay for the rest of the year in advance @ 10% discount so R2520) \nBooking: deposit fee and send POP to elma@integrativemedicine.co.za \nContributions to SASIM Account number: 1357 003986 Nedbank Stellenbosch. SUMMARY:Introduction to Life Alignment
DESCRIPTION:by Dr. Jeff Levin\, Doctor Of Natural Medicine \nThe Life Alignment healing technique is a wholistic healing system\, created by Jeff\, addressing physical\, emotional and mental imbalances. Traumatic life events are imprinted at a cellular level in our bodies\, influencing our emotional patterns and causing physical and mental imbalances. \nThis is revolutionary method of vibrational medicine. Since its inception in 1991\, it has grown into an international\, wholistic healing system used world over by practitioners and medical professionals alike. The technique identifies the root cause of any imbalance at a cellular level. The way we respond to\, and process emotions can be deeply influenced by our past experiences. These are stored not just in our minds but also in our bodies. \nIn a therapy session with Dr Levin\, he accurately identifies where stress is stored and where healing energy flow is blocked. Using the Life Alignment system\, he identifies the underlying story behind the imbalance that is manifesting\, working through specific energy points thus transforming the body’s self-healing capacity. \nA demonstration balance will probably be shown\, if the time allows \nBiography: \nAs a child\, Jeff had an interest and certain awareness of the realm of energy. But after very severe military training he became extremely ill for about 25 years. At first he sought out different ways to heal himself in the conventional world. However\, that did not work for him. \nSo he went back to his energetic base and I began to work with energy. He was an architect back then\, but at the same time inspired to help people to heal energetically. Knowing nothing about energy healing\, he followed an inner guidance that led him to many miraculous experiences. \nLater\, he moved to Canada\, where he studied many different health and healing techniques such as kinesiology\, acupuncture and nutrition. He opened a holistic centre in Toronto\, with many practitioners working together. He also opened a retreat centre\, where people would travel to from all over the world for cleansing and detoxification retreats. There he began to receive intuitively the seeds of Life Alignment from his own higher consciousness and incorporated this healing into the cleansing retreats. \nThe response was so powerful that people asked him to teach what he was doing\, but he was unable to\, as he was working intuitively. His deep need to teach grew\, and he was guided to go into a retreat and\, over a number of days of deep meditation\, he “downloaded the teaching system\, which at the time was called Body Alignment. \nIt consisted of a series of different points on the body connecting energetically to the organs\, glands and body systems and a way of working with them. He could not understand where this was coming from\, as it was completely different from everything he had learnt previously. \nHe started to work with clients using this technique\, and was totally amazed by its immense power. After a couple of months\, he put a training manual together. That was in 1991. This was when he taught the students who had been waiting what was then module 1 of Body Alignment. Over the years more information came through intuitively – more modules\, as well as Vortex Technology. \nThis is how Life Alignment was born\, and his life’s purpose to spread it worldwide. \nFee: R170 \nBooking: deposit fee and send POP to elma@integrativemedicine.co.za \nContributions to SASIM Account number: 1357 003986 Nedbank Stellenbosch. SUMMARY:Turbo Cancer
DESCRIPTION:by Dr. Helen Muir \nAccording to Wikipedia\, turbo cancer is a conspiracy theory touted by certain doctors worldwide. During the Covid Pandemic the Covid mRNA jab was given to many people without proper informed consent and without any trials providing safety and efficacy. \nWe are seeing very aggressive cancers that within months are progressing to stage 4 disease and death in young patients. Many cancer patients who were in remission are now progressing rapidly after the Covid mRNA jab. \nThere is research available now showing mechanisms underlying these turbo cancers and several centres have done research on what we can do to help these patients. \nHelen will also be touching on the Metabolic Pathways of Cancer. \nBiography: \nDr. Muir is actively involved in health and wellness after 42 years in the medical industry. She is currently occupied in patient support and care for patients with various needs where traditional medicine seemingly falls short\, but modern technology and techniques can provide different outcomes. \nShe established herself as an integrated medicine practitioner\, based on personal experiences and started focusing on supporting cancer patients and their support structures. Her passion for health and wellness of individuals and families (including family pets) means that her personal services are highly rated and in high demand. \nFee: R170 \nBooking: deposit fee and send POP to elma@integrativemedicine.co.za \nContributions to SASIM Account number: 1357 003986 Nedbank Stellenbosch. SUMMARY:Mould And Approaches To The Sensitive Patient
DESCRIPTION:by Dr. Marna Turner \nMould is a ubiquitous presence in our environment\, yet it is often overlooked and not well understood. Despite its prevalence\, the health impacts of mould exposure are frequently underestimated. Mould can cause a variety of symptoms\, including respiratory issues\, allergic reactions\, and cognitive impairments. Additionally\, it can exacerbate the morbidity of other pre-existing conditions\, making it a significant health concern. \nIn this talk\, Dr. Turner will delve into the topic of mould and other mycotoxins\, with a focus on their toxic effects on human health. Mycotoxins\, which are toxic compounds produced by certain types of moulds\, can lead to a range of serious health issues. Understanding the specific types of mycotoxins and their mechanisms of action is crucial for effective diagnosis and treatment. \nShe will also address common mistakes we often make with binding agents. Binding agents are substances used to help remove toxins from the body\, but improper use can lead to ineffective treatment or even harm\, especially in patients who are particularly sensitive. These patients may have heightened reactions to both the mould itself and the treatments used to combat it. \nBiography: \nDr. Turner brings a wealth of experience to the table as a seasoned medical professional with extensive expertise in treating vector-borne infections. Her journey into specializing in these diseases is deeply personal\, stemming from her own experience as a patient failed by our current healthcare system. This firsthand encounter ignited her passion and commitment to understanding and addressing these often misunderstood illnesses. \nAs a member of both ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) and SASIM (South African Society of Integrative Medicine)\, Dr. Turner is deeply entrenched in the forefront of research and treatment modalities for vector-borne diseases. Her dedication to evidence-based practice is evident in every slide she presents\, with meticulous referencing to ensure the highest standards of accuracy and credibility. \nIn addition to her medical qualifications\, Dr. Turner is also a functional medicine practitioner\, specializing in vector-borne diseases and mold-related illnesses. She has completed rigorous training\, including the Lyme fundamentals and ILADS physician training\, and recently returned from the prestigious ILADS Germany conference\, where she further honed her skills and knowledge in this field. \nFurthermore\, Dr. Turner is privileged to be part of the Niel Nathan and Jill Christa Mentorship program\, allowing her to continuously refine her approach and stay at the cutting edge of integrative medicine practices. \nFee: \nR170 \nPlease note that attendance is essential for CPD points😉 \nBooking: \nDeposit fee and send POP to elma@integrativemedicine.co.za\nContributions to SASIM Account number: 1357 003986 Nedbank Stellenbosch. SUMMARY:Nature Referrals: the original prescription for health and wellbeing
DESCRIPTION:by Matthew Zylstra PhD \nThis presentation covers some of the latest scientific findings linking nature\, health and wellbeing with specific relevance to the emerging concept of Nature Referrals (Nature on Prescription). We will review the rationale\, trends and international examples supporting nature-based interventions with relevance to our local context. \nWe will look at the distinction between ‘nature contact’ and ‘nature connection\,’unpacking the evidence that demonstrates why the latter better promotes a wide range of psycho-social wellbeing outcomes and should be prioritised in efforts aimed at enhancing human and planetary health. Finally\, we will explore how these emerging insights can shape an effective Nature Referrals (NRx) programme in South Africa\, highlighting lessons learned\, pathways and practice. \nMatthew Zylstra is a systems ecologist with over 20 years of international experience in social-ecological research and practice. His outdoor facilitation focuses on deepening the human-nature relationship for the health of people and planet. Matthew has an MSc in environmental science (Wageningen University\, 2005) and a transdisciplinary PhD in conservation ecology & education (Stellenbosch University\, 2014). \nHis doctorate research explored how meaningful nature experiences and nature connectedness motivate pro-environmental behaviour and personal growth. Insights from this research have informed several global initiatives – such as #NatureForAll and the Planetary Health Alliance’s education framework – and university curricula. Matthew has since completed the University of Exeter Medical School’s (ECEHH) Nature & Health CPD programme\, obtained a diploma in Shinrin Yoku (Forest Bathing) and is completing his TRE training. \nMatthew is currently Programme Coordinator for the Kwendalo Institute (Plettenberg Bay) and Scientific Advisor for NatureFix. SUMMARY:Informed Consent vs. the reality in the HPV vaccine conundrum
DESCRIPTION:by Dr. Etienne Thomas\, MBCHB (Pret) MMED Obs&Gyn (UFS) \n \nThe medical community has vowed to eradicate all illnesses and cancers as soon as possible. We have developed all kinds of miraculous medications from nanotechnology to immunizations to prevent these diseases before they even develop. \nBut how certain are we that these actions will in fact do what we expect them to do? With all the variabilities involved in these complex diseases can we say with certainty that a single intervention is all that is needed to prevent the disease? Being involved in research I have witnessed how personal bias can influence the outcome of even a double-blind medical trial. \nAre we 100% sure that this might not have influenced the outcome of a medicine that we very willingly accept and then give to the innocent? My review of the original data showed an extremely flawed study that raised more questions than answers. \nThe HPV vaccine is one that most concerns me. I have seen some irregularities in my practice which started to raise more questions than answers. I have experienced the effects of the vaccine in my own family. I now share many parents concern after visiting medical practitioners with their children just to hear “sorry we can’t help you\, she’s doing this to herself” or “It’s all in her head.” \nHow many times is a coincidence just a coincidence before it becomes a fact?” \nI have read multiple medical journals and have wondered\, what is so important about the HPV vaccine? It is not an infectious disease like meningitis or measles. It is a preventable sexual transmitted disease with a possibility of causing cervical cancer. Which in turn is also a treatable disease if diagnosed early. The vaccine however\, is marketed as prevention for cervical cancer\, when in fact it is only a prevention for HPV infection which is but one of the contributors for developing CIN lesions. \nMy main concern is that our children are being exposed to an immunization with no informed consent. I plan to create some sort of awareness about the immunization and its effects so parents can do their own research before saying yes to an intervention just because it’s free. \nIn this presentation\, I am going to explain cervical cancer\, CIN lesions\, HPV and the prevention thereof as well as facts about the vaccine that need to be taken into account when deciding whether to vaccinate or not. \nFee: \nR170 (or members may pay for rest of the year in advance at R130 per session – this concession lasts only until 1 May) \nBookings: \nDeposit fee and send POP to elma@integrativemedicine.co.za. \nContributions to SASIM Account number: 1357 003986 Nedbank Stellenbosch. \nPlease reference your name and the talk. \nPLEASE INVITE COLLEAGUES TO BOOK AND JOIN!
