The Role Of Grounding, Orienting and Resourcing In Self-Regulation by Lesley Chorn, counselling psychologist
The overwhelmed nervous system is one that is stuck between“The Freeze” and sympathetic activation. A racing mind, inability to relax, to slow down, hypervigilance and insomnia are indicators that a system has not recovered its regulation from the experience of threat. The pandemic triggered the survival instincts of every single person. It has furthermore through association brought up any deeply held unconscious memories of threat. With trauma, even when the danger is over, the brain thinks it is still happening. Mindfulness is the answer apparently. But how do we do it when we are overwhelmed? This talk will cover the important role of grounding, orienting and resourcing in coming back to the self.
