Sexual and gender diversity

March 26 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

By Dr. Madeleine Muller

All of our patients have a relationship with sex and sexuality (whether negative or positive), and challenges in this area can have a huge impact on health and well-being. The clinician needs to be able to provide both assistance and relevant education. To do this, it is important that we are fully updated on the latest understanding of sexuality and intimacy, particularly on the extraordinary diversity in this area.

We need to understand who people are (gender identity), who they love (sexual orientation) and how they love (intimacy preferences). The webinar will include some practical tools we can use in the consulting room to assist our clients with sexual challenges.

Dr. Madeleine Muller is a Family Physician and Senior lecturer at Walter Sisulu University. She provides clinical services at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital in Mdantsane, East London, where she also mentors medical students and doctors. She is the convenor for the CMSA Diploma in HIV Management and serves on the CMSA Senate Examinations and Credentials Committee and the College of Family Physicians Council.

She is on the RuDASA (Rural Doctors Association of Southern Africa) executive committee, carrying the mentoring portfolio and overseeing the Rural Onboarding program. She also serves on the executive board of PATHSA (Professional Association of Transgender Health).

Dr. Muller is currently enrolled in her MPhil in Health Professional Education through Stellenbosch University. Dr Muller is passionate about inclusive clinical care, sexual and gender health, teaching, curriculum development, and supporting the growth of patient-centred clinicians.
