Summary:

Lead is an ubiquitous environmental contaminant that leads to oxidative stress and inflammation over many years in the body. Recent studies have directly linked environmental lead exposure to cardiovascular disease. In this context Chelation therapy becomes an interesting modality when evaluating and treating patients with cardiovascular disease.

Biography:

Dr Erika Drewes is a Specialist Family Physician with 20 years of experience in South Africa and the United Kingdom. After qualifying as a medical doctor, Erika worked in various private and public hospitals in Gauteng, KZN and the UK. During this time she completed a Masters in Family Medicine (UKZN), Diploma in Obstetrics (Colleges of Medicine South Africa).

Erika’s interests include women’s health and hormonal balance, connective tissue health and rehabilitation, Gut health, Mold illness, Auto-immune disease, Chronic fatigue and Tick Borne infections.

Erika is an active member of the South African Association of Integrative Medicine (SASIM), American College for the Advancement of Medicine (ACAM) and the International Lyme’s and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS).
